Is there a place to buy these?

Postby mark 55 » Sat May 04, 2019 3:19 am

These are the innards of an old tail light. Wondering if there is a place to buy new ones I could use to re-use the old tail light bodies on by boat trailer. Would like to keep the old vintage look if I could. Or maybe an LED insert instead?
Thanks,
Scott

Buy a new light and gut it for the parts you need.

I think I may have found what I need on ebay. Will have to buy 25 of them though. Anybody need any?

I would only buy a sealed tail light.  I have had the lights that fill with water and if you pull your boat out of the water at a boat remp with the lights on as soon as the hot bulbs hit the cool water the glass on the bulb "pops".  Truck Light makes a great tail light.  I found some lights on eBay that are sealed mad by UBLights.com.  You will have to mess around a-bit to mount them though.

Cut that hole a little bigger and file some slots around the perimeter... Then you can seal the lens and use these (cheap) 1157 tail light sockets...

I just googled 1157 tail light socket waterproof and got TONS of hits.

If an antique or classic trailer, I'd suggest keeping the housing with new innards however lately I have been using the Harbor Freight magnetic base versions (similar to what the tow truck drivers use) that can be placed anywhere with a steel base on the trailer or wire-tied to the boat's transom.
